The Legend of the Chinese Gender Chart
According to legend, this prediction comes from an ancient chart said to have been discovered by a Chinese scientist. The chart is said to have lain buried in a royal tomb for around 700 years before it was found, and to be made of metal and kept today at the Beijing Institute of Science. Folklore claims that millions of people have used it over the centuries, with an accuracy of about 98%.
It is a charming piece of traditional Chinese folklore, and it is shared here for fun and entertainment. It is not a medical or scientific method of predicting a baby’s gender – only a doctor or an ultrasound scan can tell you that.
How to Use the Chart
- Work out the mother’s Chinese (lunar) age. In the Chinese system a baby is already one year old at birth, and everyone becomes a year older at each Chinese New Year, which falls in late January or February, whatever their actual birth month.
- Note the lunar month of conception.
- Find both values in the chart to see whether it points to a boy or a girl.
For example, a woman with a Chinese age of 30 and a conception month of 01 points to a boy, while the same age with a conception month of 02 points to a girl. According to the legend, the chart was the result of generations of observation and was thought so accurate that it was deliberately hidden in a tomb, which is why it stayed lost for centuries.
You don’t need to work out the Chinese age yourself – enter the mother’s date of birth and the date of conception in the form above, and MoonAstro will do the calculation for you, free of charge.
